The invention comprises a complex chromium compound of a monoazo dye of the general formula <FORM:0944407/C3/1> wherein R1 and R2 each represent a possibly halogen substituted alkyl group of at most 4 carbon atoms or they each represent an amino group possibly substituted by aliphatic radicals of at most 6 carbon atoms, alicyclic or heterocyclic radicals or each represent the piperidino or morpholino group. The complexes are produced by reacting agents introducing chromium in aqueous or aqueous organic solvent solution with the metal free dyes. The metal free dyes are obtained by conventional coupling procedures carried out in an alkaline medium optionally in the presence of nitrogen bases such as pyridine, lutidine, collidine, triethanolamine or dimethylformamide. Representative of the values specified for R1 and R2 are methyl, chlor- and bromomethyl, ethylamino, b -hydroxyethylamino and b -cyanoethylamino.
