Rich-mixture from a carburetter 35a is heated by exhaust gases in a manifold section 33 and is then delivered through pipes 37 to points adjacent the inlet ports where it mixes with air from an unheated air manifold 29, the supply of rich mixture being cut off during overrunning. Throttle valves 30, 38, in the air and mixture manifolds are interconnected by an adjustable link 41. A cut-off valve 34a cuts off the mixture flow during overrunning. In Fig. 5 the cut-off valve comprises a plunger 45 operated by a solenoid 44 which is in series with an accelerator operated switch 51 and a switch 54 operated by the battery cut-out so that the coil 44 is only energized to cut off the mixture flow when the accelerator pedal is released and the engine is overrunning. In a modification the energization of coil 44 is controlled by a diaphragm responsive to intake manifold suction.</p> |
