1,036,768. Welding by pressure. H. A. SCHLATTER A.G. Nov. 5, 1963 [April 8, 1963], No. 43657/63. Heading B3R. An electrode roller has on at least one side a layer forming part of the tread surface which conducts substantially no welding current. Two roller electrodes 1, 2, Fig. 1 (not shown), for seam welding a sheet metal radiator 31, 32 each comprises an annular bronze part 11 containing a cavity 13 for cooling water and an aperture 12 for the spindle of the electrode and mounted on one side of the roller a bevelled annular member 16 of non-magnetic material of higher electrical resistivity than the bronze, e.g. an alloy of 80% nickel, 14% chromium, 6% iron. The annular member 16 forming part of the tread surface ensures that the edges of the work beyond the weld do not gap apart. The ratio of the resisitivity of the member 16 and the electrode conducting material may be 50: 1 and the materials have the same hardness and resistance to wear. The extra material may be screwed, riveted, shrunk or cemented to the body of the roller or may be sprayed or cast thereon and may be electrically insulated therefrom. Both sides of the roller may be provided with the extra material.
|
