[Also in Division F2] In a vehicle changespeed gear having an at least partly hydrodynamic lower speed range and a purely mechanical higher speed range, a power takeoff is possible only in the hydrodynamical speed range. A vehicle, such as an excavator, has an engine 1 driving through a splittorque hydrodynamic change-speed gear 2 and a distributer gear 3 to either the road wheels 4 or a digger 5. The input shaft 6 drives a torque splitting epicyclic gear 7, engageable by release of a brake 9a to drive the impeller 10 of a torque - converter having its turbine 11 coupled by a freewheel 13 to the second output shaft 9 of the gear 7, which shaft forms the input of a two-speed and reverse epicyclic gear controlled by brakes 14b, 15b and 16b. The change speed gear output shaft 17 drives a distributer gear 3 for selective drive through a clutch 40 to the wheels 4 or digger 5. The change-speed gear 2 is controlled by a lever 18 and rotary valve 19 feeding compressed air to the appropriate brakes. At high speeds of the shaft 8 pressure oil from a pump 26 closes a valve 29 in a compressed air supply to brake release piston 33 and the brake 9a is engaged by the spring 36 to lock out the torque-converter 12. Engagement of the drive to the digger 5 by lever 47 rotates a valve 51 to shut an air supply line 53 holding an exhaust valve 55, in the oil supply line, shut whereupon the valve 55 opens to pass the oil to exhaust and valve 29 opens to release the brake 9a such that the torque-converter is always operative when the digger drive is engaged. To protect the freewheel 13 from fluctuating loads when the digger is engaged, the valve 51 also passes compressed air to a piston 62 engaging a mechanical lock 63 on the freewheel. To allow slow motion of the vehicle while digging the engine 1 may drive the wheels 4 through a parallel hydrostatic gear 70, 73. In a modification, the lever 47 controls a double clutch on the shaft 17 to allow drive to the wheels, the digger, or the wheels and the digger. In the last case the mechanical drive is inhibited as previously. |
