PURPOSE: A media access control apparatus of a wireless LAN system and a method thereof are provided to determine CW based on information about stations which are connected with an access point. CONSTITUTION: A station count extracting unit(111) extracts a station count within a BSS(Basic Service Set) load element within received beacon. An access station number predicting unit(113) predicts the number of accessed stations. A minimum CW(Contention Window) determining unit(115) determines the minimum CW. A CW setting unit(117) sets up the CW.
