PURPOSE: A photographing apparatus and a photographing method are provided to enable a user to select the simplicity of the durability of a battery. CONSTITUTION: A subject distance calculating unit(6) calculates a subject distance based on two images which are generated by an image signal. The subject distance is a separation distance to a subject from a photographing place of a subject. An in-focus location detecting unit(7) moves a focus location of each photographing optical system. The in-focus location detecting unit detects an in-focus location based on a contrast evaluation value of an image signal.
