SYNTHETIC ANTIGENIC PEPTIDES AND LIPOPEPTIDES DERIVED FROM MYCOBACTERIUM AVIUM SUBSP. PARATUBERCULOSIS

The use of a Mycobacterium paratuberculosis antigen for the in vitro detection of anti-M. paratuberculosis antibodies from a biological sample. The antigen is (a) a synthetic peptide 5P having the formula DPhe-NMeVal-Ile-Phe-Ala-OMe (SEQ ID NO:1) or (b) a lipopeptide L5P that consists of SEQ ID NO:1 wherein the N-terminal phenylalanine residue is N-acylated with an eicosanoic acid acyl chain. The antigen can be used to detect a delayed-type hypersensitivity cell-mediated immune response against M. paratuberculosis.
