A method and system for controlling access to a radio frequency identification tag are disclosed. The method includes: configuring a unique identifier distinguished from the electronic product code (EPC) for the radio frequency identification tag, saving the unique identifier to the data area other than the EPC area in the radio frequency identification tag, and controlling access to the data area; when the reader operates the radio frequency identification tag, obtaining the unique identifier from the data area, and using the unique identifier to make operations. The method saves the unique identifier distinguished from the EPC in the data area other than the EPC area to ensure the security of the unique identifier by controlling access to the data area. The method is a safe and efficient EPC application method. The method improves the efficiency of tag access and enhances the application security by way of sequential processing.
