[Also in Division E2] A socket 10 of resilient material, e.g. metal or synthetic resin, has a shank 22 and a head 16 whose undersurface 19, which may be undercut as shown, bears on the support 12 to which the socket is secured by a core-pin 11 when fitted closely in the socket bore. The head and shank each have at least one radial slit 17, 18 and the closed ends of the slits may overlap. The head has an annular rib 15 for engaging longitudinal ribs 30 in a metal strip 14 to be secured to the support 12. The metal strip may be for ornament on a car or recessed for holding glass in metal window frames. The pin 11 may be of synthetic resin or other non-metal. The socket shank 22 may be cylindrical externally, possibly with longitudinal grooving 33, Figs. 4-7 (not shown), and the head undersurface may have an annular groove, but as shown the shank has an external annular ridge 23. There is an internal rib 31 by which the pin 11 spreads the socket shank 22 and there may be a pin groove 29 into which the rib snaps when the fastener is in position.</p> |
