<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image display device capable of displaying a multi-viewpoint stereoscopic image that has no time difference between the right and left images and that has a high resolution. <P>SOLUTION: A stereoscopic image display device comprises: a flat display panel in which pixels are arranged in the form of a matrix and in which an image corresponding to each of a plurality of view points is sequentially formed by time-division drive so that the flat display panel corresponds to the plurality of view points in a plurality of directions, optical means disposed on the front side of the flat display panel, polarizing glasses that a viewer wears, and a control device that controls the image formation at the flat display panel and the light transmission through the polarizing glasses. The flat display panel comprises a first image forming area that forms an image for the right eye and a second image forming area that forms an image for the left eye. In the optical means, a first polarizing area and a second polarizing area are arranged so as to correspond to the first image forming area and the second image forming area in position and size.
