摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calibrate and efficiently measure an absolute value of a signal observed as a magneto-optical effect. <P>SOLUTION: A magneto-optical spectral instrument 1 includes: linear polarizing plates 4 and 7 with rotary mechanisms which can adjust angles &phiv;<SB POS="POST">1</SB>and &phiv;<SB POS="POST">2</SB>of respective polarization planes; first calculation means 51 for respectively calculating an absolute value 43 of a Kerr rotation angle based on each measurement value 41 in each of angles of the polarization planes on respective linear polarizing plates 4 and 7 by using a rotary polarizer method; correlation discrimination means 52 for discriminating existence of correlation between the absolute value 43 of the Kerr rotation angle and the angle &phiv;1 of an incident light polarization plane to be a polarization plane on the first linear polarizing plate 4; second calculation means 53 which when absence of correlation is determined, calculates a spectrum 44 of a Kerr rotation angle of a sample based on a measurement value 42 using a polarization modulation method; and third calculation means 54 for performing multiplication for suiting a value of the Kerr rotation angle in the spectrum 44 to the absolute value 43 of the Kerr rotation angle and calculating the calibrated spectrum as a spectrum 45 of magneto-optical characteristics of the sample. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
