PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling a transmission line category are provided to secure the quality of real-time services including call services by securing bandwidths for the call services according to the speed of a transmission line. CONSTITUTION: A quality information receiving part(410) receives wireless channel quality information of a terminal in connection with a base station. A speed measuring part(430) measures the speed of a transmission line. A category controlling part(470) controls a transmission line category which is divided by data transmission related information based on category decision information including the speed information of the transmission line and the wireless channel quality information of the terminal. If the quality value of a wireless channel is more than a reference quality value, and the speed value of the transmission line is more than a reference speed value, the category controlling part expands a bandwidth for transmitting data.
