<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting pertussis which can distinguish a vaccinee and a pertussis infected person, and is excellent in detection accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: A method of producing Fim3 of Bordetella pertussis is a production method which performs under the absence of a protease in all steps, wherein Bordetella pertussis or a recombinant cell which expresses a pilus of Bordetella pertussis is subjected to a dissolving operation in an aqueous solvent, then an insoluble fraction of the cell separated, subsequently, a solubilization operation of the insoluble fraction is performed, a purification operation is performed while contacting a solubilized fraction obtained by this to urea to obtain the Fim3.
