<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peptide originated from a human BPLP protein, a polynucleotide encoding the peptide and an antibody directed against the peptide. <P>SOLUTION: This peptide which is a maturation product of a basic proline-rich lacrimal protein (BPLP), and the peptide derivative or mimetic compound of the maturation product are provided, and the peptide, peptide derivative or mimetic compound exhibit an inhibitory property against a metallo-ectopeptidase, especially NEP and/or APN. Also, the polynucleotide encoding the peptide and the antibody directed against the peptide are provided.
