A method for tuning a gearshift point of an automatic transmission comprising the steps of calculating pre-shift average machine acceleration upon command for an upshift; calculating post-shift average machine acceleration; determining the difference in the pre-shift and the post-shift average machine accelerations to obtain an acceleration delta value; and calculating a shift point delta value based on the acceleration delta value to modify the upshift point associated with the upshift.
