[Also in Group XXII] A method of covering electrical components, e.g. electrical capacitors includes the steps of guiding the components between a pair of cooperating forming tools, guiding a strip of covering material between each tool and the components, moving the forming tools in such a way that the two strips of covering material are brought into contact with each other on two opposite sides of the components and subsequently closing the remaining open ends. In an embodiment metal foil strips 1 and 2 are fed from rolls 1<SP>1</SP> and 2<SP>1</SP> over deflecting rolls 3 to two co-operating and oppositely rotating recessed bending tools 5 and 6. An adhesive is deposited continuously or intermittently on one side of each foil strip from storage vessels 7 and 8. Capacitors 10a are fed to the tools from a feed arrangement 9. In operation each foil is laid around one half of the external surface of the capacitor and the foils are welded by pressure or cemented where they meet on opposite sides of the capacitor. The tools may be heated to facilitate the jointing of the foil or a welding voltage may be supplied to the tools to enable the foils to be spot-welded. In another embodiment the capacitor is first covered according to the invention with foils of a synthetic material to form an insulating covering which is afterwards covered with metal foils. Alternatively metal foils coated on both sides with insulating material are used or foils comprising a synthetic carrier foil 15, Fig. 4, coated with metal foil in spaced-apart portions 16 which are coated with insulating material 17. Further operations, such as casting the open ends, testing &c. are carried out before severing the capacitor chain which operation may be effected in a feedmachine for printed circuits. |
