[Also in Division F1] In a two-part solid fuel rocket motor casing having a convergentdivergent nozzle, the joint is situated in the convergent section 13 of the nozzle N as near to the section of zero longitudinal stress as is consistent with ease of core withdrawal, after in situ curing of the propellent. One such joint is shown in Fig. 3, in which the pressure vessel V and the nozzle N are brought into engagement by axial movement thereby mating respectively axial surfaces 22-36 and 28-32, and inclined surfaces 27-33 and 24-35. Locking may be achieved by inserting a series of ring segments 40 inserted through an opening 42 (Fig. 1), so as to transmit longitudinal stresses by engagement of the surfaces 25, 34. |
