<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device employing an IPS mode, an FFS mode or the like, which is improved in not only display quality but also viewing angle characteristics with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes at least first polarizing films 8, 20, a first retardation area 10 having an Re of 60 nm to 200 nm and an Nz value of more than 0.8 and 1.5 or less, a second retardation area 12 having an Re of 50 nm or less and an Rth of -200 nm to -50 nm, a liquid crystal cell in which liquid crystal molecules of a liquid crystal layer 15 are aligned in parallel to surfaces of a pair of substrates and directions of slow axes 11, 12 are parallel to transmission axes 9, 21 of the first polarizing films during black display, and a second polarizing film. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
