PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an author to handle only one of an L-area for storing a left-eye image and an R-area for storing a right-eye image with respect to a video plane which is an image storage area of two planes composed of the L-area and the R-area and which stores a video image.

SOLUTION: An API for setting the sizes of images to be stored in an L-area and an R-area sets the sizes of images to be stored in the L-area and the R-area to the same size. The present technique can be applied to a BD player for playing a BD or the like.
