<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst element that can exhibit catalytic activity even using weak visible light and can be made compact. <P>SOLUTION: The photocatalyst elements 1, 11, 21 and 31 include optical waveguides 2, 12, 22 and 32 as a base material made of a fiber-like long body or a columnar body on which light is incident along its axis direction, metal coating layers 3, 13, 23 and 33 formed on the surfaces of the optical waveguides 2, 12, 22 and 32, and photocatalyst thin film layers 4, 14, 24, and 34 formed on the metal coating layers 3, 13, 23 and 33. The metal coating layers 13 and 33 have hole parts 17 and 37 regularly disposed therein each having a diameter shorter than the wavelength of light emitted from the light emitting diode. The metal coating layers 3, 13, 23 and 33 are made of at least one kind of metal selected from Au, Ag, Al, Cu, Pt and Pd. The photocatalyst elements 11 and 21 have ruthenium-pigment layers 5 and 25 or biphotonic phosphor layers 6 and 26 between the metal coating layers 3 and 23 and the photocatalyst thin film layers 4 and 24. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
