A biometric authentication device includes: a biometric information acquisition unit that images a first part containing the biometric information of a user, so as to generate a biological image indicating the biometric information; a reference table indicating the relationship between the user's position with respect to a predetermined reference position and a rotation angle of the biometric information; a storage unit that stores a template for the registered biometric information of a registered user; and a processing section. The processing section derives the position of a second part (distinct from the first part) of the user from a position detection image of the second part, so as to determine the user's position with respect to the predetermined reference position; determines a rotation angle corresponding to the position of the user by referring to the reference table; rotates the registered biometric information and the biometric information of the biological image according to the rotation angle so as to make the orientations thereof substantially parallel; and checks the registered biometric information and the biometric information, the orientations of which are substantially parallel. |
