The method involves representing conditions of driver assistance modules (10-1 to 10-n) e.g. adaptive cruise controls, influencing a transverse and/or longitudinal guidance of a vehicle in a variable graphical base element. A list is displayed in a display device (5). The list is provided with list entries including a partial view of the graphical base element. The driver assistance modules influencing the transverse guidance or longitudinal guidance of the vehicle are commonly adjusted by the list entries by actuating an operating unit (3). An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance system comprising an operating unit.
