PURPOSE: Method and apparatus for reducing the power consumption on a set-top box are provided to shut-down power of an unused video tuner when playing a video using the set-top box. CONSTITUTION: A method for reducing the power consumption on a set-top box comprises the following steps: turning on the power of a client STB, and operating a normal operation(310, 320); activating an MoCA link on the client STB for communicating with a server STB(330); receiving video data from the server STB when a video play request a transmitted to the client STB using the MoCA link(340, 350); and shutting down the power of a tuner when playing the provided video data on the client STB(360, 370).
