This article storage device (1) has: a storage unit having racks (21) for storing articles; a cage (4) suspended by a crane so that the cage (4) can be moved vertically; and a carriage (5) disposed on the cage (4). The cage (4) has outriggers (6) configured so that the outriggers (6) can be extended toward and retracted from the racks (21) and can be engaged with the racks (21). The racks (21) have: first engagement sections (7) disposed at portions with which the outriggers (6) are engaged; and second engagement sections (8) which are disposed adjacent to the first engagement sections (7) in the direction in which the outriggers (6) are extended and retracted. The second engagement sections (8) are configured so that the second engagement sections (8) can position the outriggers (6), and the second engagement sections (8) are adapted in such a manner that one of the outriggers (6) is engaged with a second engagement section (8) which is disposed ahead in the direction of travel of the carriage (5), and that the remaining outriggers (6) are engaged with the first engagement sections (7). |
