The present invention describes novel culture media (PCG medium) for microalgae, which do not contain EDTA in its composition. The PCG medium of the invention is an alternative for facilitating the obtention of microalgae intended to clean polluting heavy metals, having a higher cleaning capacity and adaptation, contributing to improve the biotechnological applications thereof in the invention field. The use of the PCG medium does not affect the growth or the basic metabolic functions of the microalgae, thus accurately studying the effects caused by the consecutive increases of heavy metals up to toxic levels. According to the present invention, the PCG medium allows a variety of microalgae to be selected and obtained, these having a higher capacity to clean water polluted with heavy metals, which allows the same to be used for biologically removing the heavy metals from residual or aquatic system waters.
