The chain (10) has tooth plates (3) and covering plates (16) that are connected with one another over cradle pieces (8, 8'). The cradle pieces run transverse to a longitudinal direction of the chain, and arranged in openings (11, 11') of the plates. The covering plates comprise outer-lying plate brackets (12) and a plate rod that connects the brackets. The rod has an outwardly-point running rod (14) extending from a reference plane (15) that is formed by the brackets. The opening of the covering plates is provided with a bevel (82), where one of the cradle pieces has a constant cross-section.
