PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof having a polarization layer are provided to omit a polarization layer having an external surface of a color filter substrate. CONSTITUTION: A polarization layer covers an overcoat layer. The polarization layer includes reactive mesogen and dichroic dye. The polarization layer has a polarization function with a polymerization reaction of the reactive mesogen. A transparent common electrode(135) covers the polarization layer. A liquid crystal layer(180) is arranged between the pixel electrode and the common electrode. A polarizing plate(170) includes in the outer surface of the first substrate.
