FIELD: medicine. ^ SUBSTANCE: what is offered is a gastric swelling oral composition for appetite suppression containing at least one cross-linked polycarboxylate homopolymer, cross-linked polycarboxylate copolymer or their combination wherein polymer is cross-linked by means of a non-vinyl cross-linker; polymer particles or grains have the pre-swelling average particle size within 100 nm to 1 mm, and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, a gastric swelling composition of polymeric hydrogel for the same purposes, a method for appetite modulation in an individual, a gastric swelling agent prepared by the method involving monomer or monomer mixture polymerisation for polymerisation involving at least one ethyl-unsaturated carboxyl containing monomers and at least one non-vinyl cross-linking agent and a method for making the swelling agent of said composition.
