PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for using a portable terminal are provided to variously divide a using environment of a portable terminal according to each account of various users. CONSTITUTION: If a SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card is inserted, a controlling unit confirms the existence of the generated user account(S201,S202). The controlling unit controls the display of a list of the confirmed user account(S203). If the displayed user account is selected, the controlling unit confirms a setup value corresponding to the selected user account(S204). The controlling unit sets up a use environment of a portable terminal(S205).
