A primary cell comprises a gold-plated steel cathode collector, and a cathode depolarizer in contact with the gold plating. As shown, a cylindrical pellet 4 of cathode depolarizer is contained in a cylindrical steel cathode collector 3 which has a gold plating 13. The anode comprises cylindrical pellets 6 of amalgamated zinc containing 13% mercury. The depolarizer is a mixture of 91% manganese dioxide and 9% micronized graphite. The cell is closed by a double lid 9, 10 and sealed by a plastics grommet 8. Cells having a depolarizer of mercuric oxide are also mentioned. |
