PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating (1) for a mechanical component.

SOLUTION: The coating includes: a first layer (3) of hydrogen-containing amorphous silicon carbide, designed to be in contact with a mechanical component (2); a layering structure (4); and an external side layer (5) of a hydrogen-containing amorphous carbon. The layering structure (4) includes alternating layers (4a, 4b) of hydrogen-containing amorphous carbon and hydrogen-containing amorphous silicon carbide. The total thickness of the coating is preferably 10-20 μm.
