The invention comprises monoazo dyes or mixtures thereof of the formula <FORM:1008176/C4-C5/1> in which R1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group, R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or alkoxy group that may be substituted, R4 represents a hydrogen or an alkyl or alkoxy group and R5 represents a cyanalkoxyalkyl group or aliphatic acyloxyalkyl group. Such dyes are prepared by appropriate diazotization and coupling procedures. Advantageously the dyes may be used in admixture with dyes of similar structure in which the group NHR is replaced by a bis-(cyanalkoxyalkyl)-amin or bis-)acyloxyalkyl)-amino group. In one example a blue dye for polyester fibres is obtained by reacting diazotized 2: 4-dinitro-aniline with 2-methoxy-5-acetylamino-N - (b -cyanoethoxyethyl)-aniline. Other examples are furnished and many additional products are specified. The dyes are particularly suitable for dyeing polyester fibres, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate.
