Metal surfaces of absorption-refrigerators, mainly iron and copper, are protected from corrosion by adding to the absorber liquid an antimonial compound. The absorber liquid specified is lithium bromide solution made alkaline with lithium hydroxide, and is mixed with excess of antimony metal, antimony oxide, or lithium antimonite or antimonate to form a saturated solution. A coating is formed on the metal surface which is stable at temperatures above 390 DEG F.ALSO:The metal surfaces of absorption-refrigerators, usually iron and copper, are protected from corrosion by adding to the absorber liquid an antimonial compound. The absorber liquid specified is lithium bromide solution containing also lithium hydroxide, and is mixed with excess of antimony oxide, lithium antimonite, or lithium antimonate to form a saturated solution, which forms a coating on the metal surface stable at temperatures above 390 DEG F. Alternatively a part of the metal surface may be made of an alloy containing antimony e.g. .a heat exchange tube made of Cu/Ni/Sb alloy. In further modifications, antimony metal may be added to the absorber solution or mounted as a metal body on the surface to be protected. |
