PURPOSE: A method for preparing chiral intermediates for producing pitavastatin is provided to simply obtain the chiral intermediates of high yield and high optical purity. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing diol compound of chemical formula I comprises: a step of performing addition reaction of a compound of chemical formula II with a compound of chemical formula A to prepare a compound of chemical formula III; a step of deprotecting the compound of chemical formula III to prepare a compound of chemical formula IV; and a step of stereoselectively reducing the compound of chemical formula IV.
