A process for crosslinking polyamides by reacting a compound of the general formula R1R2C=CR3-X, in which R1, R2 and R3 are each independently hydrogen or an organic radical with a lactam A at a temperature of (-30) to 150°C and then with a lactam B, a catalyst and an activator at a temperature of 40 to 240°C.
