<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a corona discharge device that is configured to fold single charge wire 106 to assume having two strands of wire 106a, 106c so as to move the wire in a stretched direction; and reduces difference in charge performance of the wire in an area for the wire to cause corona discharge after the movement so as to use the charge wire 106 efficiently. <P>SOLUTION: The length of wire 106b stretched inside an electrode side case 102, when charge wire 106 is folded, is made not more than the length obtained by adding the length of wire 106a or 106c to the movement error of the charge wire 106, as well as not less than the maximum paper width.
