The present invention relates to a membrane-electrode unit comprising at least two electrochemically active electrodes which are separated by at least one polymer-electrolyte membrane, the aforementioned polymer-electrolyte membrane having at least one reinforcement, characterized in that the reinforcement comprises at least one film that has holes through which the polymer-electrolyte membrane is in contact with both electrochemically active electrodes. The membrane-electrode unit is suitable for applications in fuel cells, in particular in high-temperature polymer-electrolyte fuel cells.
