<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple coating method by which a pattern similar to a natural stone material such as marble is formed in a building or the like. <P>SOLUTION: A method for forming a patterned surface performs, onto a base material, (1) a step of applying a colored coating material in a striped shape to form a stripe patterned surface and (2) a step of applying at least one or more kinds of transparent colored coating materials in granules onto the stripe patterned surface.
