1,009,320. Making magnetic recording &c. head cores. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 3, 1964 [Sept. 5, 1963], No. 8947/64. Heading G5R. [Also in Division B3] As contrasted with the glass/ferrite heads described in Specification 897,123, channelform blocks of ferrite 1, 4 are abutted at the end B and are propped apart by mica spacers 5 at the transducing-gap end A only. The spacers 2, 3 fill with glass or enamel supplied from stock rods 6, 7 and the resulting gas formed by machining the plane A has a length decreasing with depth. This ensures a non- deterioration of video-frequency response as the head wears away, and the initial gap-size may be determined from the thickness of the mica 5 by appropriate siting of the plane A. The block is cut into a plurality of similar cores at the planes C and the member 1 may be grooved in known manner at 8, 9 to improve glass adhesion. |
