Liquid at a controlled rate and gas or vapour at a controlled pressure are pumped to a header 1 from which either liquid or a mixture of liquid and gas or vapour may be sprayed through one or more nozzles 2. The nozzle 2 is provided with a constriction 4 and a passageway 5 so that by adjusting the flow of liquid to give a level in the header 1 above the constriction, liquid is sprayed and between the constriction and the passageway 5, a mixture of liquid and gas or vapour is sprayed. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the nozzle 21 is mounted wholly externally of the header 20 and the passageway is constituted by a tube 24 extruding through a constriction 23 to a level in the header below the nozzle.
