A ratchet clutch comprises rollers 16 in a cage formed by end rings 18 with radially inclined bars 20 between them, each bar carrying on its front face a leaf spring 23 engaging the associated clutch roller while a roller retaining step 24 is formed on its rear face, the end rings having teeth 19, Fig. 7 (not shown), on their radially outer peripheries slidden into roller-receiving cam pockets 13, Fig. 1 (not shown), in an outer race 11 itself press-fitted into a pulley, gear &c. 12. A shaft 15 engages within the clutch rollers 16. Either the ends of the outer clutch race 11 may be bent inwards, so that the cage is axially held loosely in position, Fig. 3 (not shown), or alternatively, separate rings may be fitted within retaining grooves at the ends of the race, Fig. 4 (not shown). Engagement of the clutch rollers 16 with the cam pockets 13 when torque is transmitted tends to expand the outer race 11, and thus increases the tightness of its frictional fit within the pulley &c. 12.</p> |
