PURPOSE: A device for connecting an access pointer in a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to omit a connection attempt to an AP and set a group with a high security level, thereby preventing information from being leaked using the AP. CONSTITUTION: A group setting unit(106) groups lists of adjacent AP(Access Point)s by selection of a user. An AP search unit(104) searches the adjacent APs in case of AP connection. The AP search unit classifies APs in a selected item. The AP search unit is connected to the classified APs.
