APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING SAPPHIRE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for producing a sapphire single crystal which avoids the detachment of a seed crystal from a holder.

SOLUTION: The apparatus 10 for producing a sapphire single crystal includes: a crucible 20 for melting aluminum oxide; a holder 30 for holding a seed crystal 32 of aluminum oxide; and a rotating pulling means 70 for pulling the holder 30 while rotating it with respect to a melt 21 of aluminum oxide accumulated in the crucible 20. The apparatus 10 further includes a heat-shielding means 40 which is located at a position overlapping with the holder 30 in the pulling direction of the rotating pulling means 70 and surrounds the holder 30 in view in the pulling direction.
