[Also in Division E2] A drive motor (Fig. 1, not shown), for a sliding window of a motor vehicle acts through reduction gearing 2, a torque limiting slip coupling 5/13/6, and a toothed wheel 7 meshing helical projections on an axially movable flexible cable 12 secured at one end to the window. The wheel 7 is drivingly connected to a shaft 6, on which it is loosely carried, by a U-shaped member 8 the limbs of which engage in axial slots 14<SP>1</SP> in a collar 9 splined to the shaft 6, and in recesses 15 in the wheel 7. An entrainment spring brake 10 engages a flange of the collar 9. The end 17 of the shaft 6 may receive a hand crank 16 to operate the window if the motor 1 fails. The slip coupling comprises a ribbed sheet metal sleeve 13, e.g. of spring steel, which engages the other end of the shaft 6 and the cylindrical wall of the bore of a sleeve 5 rigidly connected to the output shaft 4 of the reduction gearing. An alternative coupling (Fig. 4, not shown), comprises a helical spring 25 compressed to fit into the bore 24 of a sleeve 23. Projections 26, 27 on a key 30 in an axial slot in a shaft 22 (corresponding to the shaft 6 of Fig. 3) engage the ends 28, 29 of the spring 25 to receive the drive in either direction from the sleeve 23. In another form, the projections are formed in the sleeve 23, and the inside of the helical coil frictionally engages the end of the shaft 22. A simple split ring may replace the helical spring 25.
