<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery high in capacity and excellent in cycle property. <P>SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes: a cathode containing cathode active material; an anode containing anode active material; and nonaqueous electrolyte containing nonaqueous solvent. The cathode active material contains a Li-containing transition metal oxide represented by general formula (1) Li<SB POS="POST">1+x</SB>Mn<SB POS="POST">y</SB>M<SB POS="POST">z</SB>O<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, where x, y and z satisfy 0<x<0.4, 0<y<1, 0<z<1 and x+y+z=1, and M denotes one or more kinds of metal elements at least including Ni or Co.
