<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road recognition device and road recognition method for recognizing a road sign with improved recognition rate. <P>SOLUTION: A road recognition device 100 includes an image conversion part 101, an image superimposition part 103, and an image recognition part 105. The image conversion part 101 converts a plurality of road surface images captured by an in-vehicle camera 90 at a plurality of timings during moving, into a birds-eye images. The image superimposition part 103 aligns the birds-eye images, superimposes a part of the regions of the birds-eye images, and adds pixel values of the birds-eye images in the superimposed regions to generate a synthesized birds-eye image.
