Additive manufacturing system for building a product. The additive manufacturing system comprising a radiation source (4), an optical controller (6) that comprises a shutter (8), and a system frame (10) for holding a substrate (12) and a reactant (14). The shutter (8) comprises a shutter frame (20) having a guide (22) and having shutter frame connectors (24) on selected positions of the shutter frame (20). The shutter (8) has a shutter blade (28) movable along said guide (22) between said selected positions (26) and comprising a blade connector (30) that can be connected to a shutter frame connector (24). The blade connector (30) is arranged for being disconnectable from the shutter frame connector (24) when a disconnection force on the blade connector (30) is above a threshold disconnection force. The shutter (8) further comprises a launcher (29) provided for acting on the shutter blade (28) to provide a launching force larger than the threshold disconnection force. The shutter (8) also comprises an energy supply (36) for energizing the launcher (29).
