1,075,462. Dry cooling towers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 5, 1965 [March 11, 1964], No. 10241/64. Heading F4S. In a dry cooling tower comprising at least one row of generally rectangular air-cooled heat exchange elements 15 in which water is cooled, all the elements in a row are inclined in one direction between upper and lower supports 28, 25; and adjacent elements in a row are inclined relative to each other (see Fig. 3) in a zig-zag manner. Each element consists of finned tubes 16 which extend between upper and lower headers 18, 19. The upper header is a return header and the lower header is partitioned into inlet and outlet compartments (Fig. 1) communicating respectively with inlet and outlet mains 22, 23. In the form shown, each of two rows of the elements 15 is served by an individual row of fans 14. Alternatively, a single row of fans may serve both rows of elements. In a natural draught cooling tower a circular row of the elements may be arranged at the base of the tower.
