PURPOSE: A content providing method of a portable terminal and apparatus thereof are provided to enable a user to feel additional fun by enabling a user to collect characters and to increase levels of the characters in content. CONSTITUTION: Electronic book content is received from a service provider server(302). Character request messages including the identification information of the received electronic book content are transmitted to the service provider server(304). Character information corresponding to the identification information from the service provider server(306). The character is displayed according to the received character information(308).
