1,077,326. Control of D.C. motors. AUSTIN CROMPTON PARKINSON ELECTRIC VEHICLES Ltd. Jan. 11, 1966 [Feb. 3, 1965], No. 4600/65. Heading H2J. A battery powered vehicle has two propulsion motors, one larger than the other, mechanically coupled together via constant or variable ratio gear or belt drive. The smaller is used for initial acceleration and in one embodiment can then be de-clutched. The preferred sequence of operation from rest is:-(i) motors in series, the larger acting as a voltage dropper by its resistance and back E.M.F., (ii) full voltage on smaller motor only, (iii) full voltage on larger only and (iv) both motors in parallel. Changeover is effected at a predetermined speed or lapse of time. |
